Ceremony – The Words in the Trees

In her first year of the joint honours degree in Fine Art at Edinburgh University (where she studied art history) and Edinburgh College of Art (where she studied drawing and painting), Lynn MacRitchie devised “Ceremony – the Words in the Trees”, a participation performance, in collaboration with the Scottish writer Alan Spence.
On the same day at the same time, participants wrote their dearest thoughts and wishes on labels and tied them to the branches of selected trees in public spaces, one in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow. Open to all, the event was advertised on noticeboards in the art schools and universities in each city and was well attended.
